What is the best LED flashlight?
What is the best LED flashlight?
The answer to this question depends on what your needs are. If you just need a light that is readily available when you need it and will sit on your night stand at night, then you probably want a rechargeable flashlight. If you want to carry it with you daily then you will want something small but powerful. If you have a large property or you are out at night searching or patrolling then you need a light that can throw a long distance or a flashlight that is very floody. These are three good categories to start with.
Best Rechargeable Flashlight
I personally love my Olight S20R Baton. This 500 lumen rechargeable flashlight sits next to my bedside on my nightstand. It is perfect because it has its own stand that actually recharges the light. It sits there on the stand ready for whenever it is called upon. My wife knows where to find it and it is so easy to use she just picks it up and uses it. You know it is a good tool when no training is required. This is the most convenient rechargeable available today. Just pop the light onto the dock and it starts charging. When you need it, just grab it and go. We have many of the best rechargeable flashlights available today, but if we had to pick one, the S20R is the best bang for the buck available right now.
Some other rechargeables require you to turn the light on and then plug in the USB in order for the light to charge. With the S20R you just put the light on the dock and it starts charging. I definitely like the less fiddly S20R over its USB rechargeable brothers.
Best Everyday Carry (EDC) Flashlight
The best LED flashlight for EDC has to be Olight's S1 Baton. This tiny little light has surprising brightness for its size. It packs 500 lumens of awesome in its thumbsized frame. Every person that I show this light to falls in love. You can stick it on your hat so it is aiming at whatever you are looking at. It has a magnetic tail so if you want to hang it from your hood or your work environment, you will have a nice bright light that doesn't get in your way. We had to get our heating unit fixed recently and I attached the S1 to the inside of my heating unit so the repair man could see because his cheap incandescent light just wasn't doing the job. We gave an S1 Baton to our friends at Bass Merica to review, check out his video.
Best LED Spot light
Nitecore's TM26 is an an amazing light, but it has a new younger brother. Nitecore really pushed the envelope with their new TM26GT. They increased the throw. They increased the lumens. They made it more efficient so the batteries last longer. This is one of the brightest flashlights on the market today. It truly earns the Tiny Monster moniker. The TM26GT has 4 CREE XP-L HI V3 LEDs, these are latest high intensity LEDs from CREE. This monster produces 3500 lumens and throws light out to 704 meters. You can run this light at 3500 lumens for an hour and a half. It is fantastic. This is not the cheapest flashlight, as a matter of fact it is downright expensive. But you get what you pay for. Nitecore's TM26GT is one of the brightest flights available in a small package.
Best LED Flashlight
If you pressed me to pick one single flashlight, I would have to pick Olight's S20R Baton. It is just a little more expensive than Olight's S1 Baton but the convenience just wins the battle. Also the S20R is small enough that it qualifies as an EDC. But I can't recommend the S20R Baton enough. I would say the S20R is the best LED flashlight today.
